Before choosing your next home, you should consider where you see yourself down the road. You don't just want to buy a house for your lifestyle today. You want a house you can see yourself living in for several years to come, so here are some things to consider:
Where will you be in five years? Are you in a job that moves you around frequently or is a move a possibility in the near future? If so this might impact the type of house you purchase. Talk with your agent about helping pick a home that is a smart move if you need to sell it shortly down the road.
Is your family growing? If you're not going to be the only one living in the home for long than consider bringing your partner into the decision making plans. You'll want the location and style home to fit both your needs. Or, if kids or pets are in your near future, you'll want to make sure the home is conducive for those additional family members. Is the home big enough for a few more family members? Are stairs going to be okay with a new baby or puppy? Is the backyard and location still going to fit your needs if you add a baby or puppy into the family?
What is your lifestyle? Consider the people and areas you are drawn to the most. If you love the nightlife or enjoy eating at different restaurants throughout the week than country life might not be for you. Or, if you prefer the enjoyment of a quiet life than a large busy neighborhood might not be for you. Also consider how much time you are willing to spend in a car commuting to and from your work, family, and friends.
