It should come to no surprise as people stayed at home for so long that they now want to make their home more of an expression of themselves. According to Realtor magazine, here are the upcoming trends we're going to see in 2022:
Curvier Building Elements: We are going to start seeing curves both inside and outside the home. From arched openings, barrel-vault ceilings, and curvy furniture, designers predict. Outside, arched windows and doors, arched openings, and ceilings for porches or decks will make statements, as will curved walkways.
Patterned hardwoods: Lighter hardwood flooring is going to start coming into trend, as well as patterns. We are going to start seeing patterns with layout and with the use of two tones.
Colorful kitchens: The days of all white kitchens might be coming to an end. Or, they are at least going to see more color come into the mix. We're going to start seeing painted or wood cabinets in warm or neutral hues. And we are going to start seeing mixed media countertops, according to predictors.
Black highlights: Realtor magazine states "black accents are trending, as are subtle colors and warm tones. Interior and exterior black window frames, black lacquered entryway doors, and black appliances—either shiny or matte—are expected to grow in popularity in 2022."
Maximalism takes root: And, according to Realtor magazine, "more homes are also taking on a “maximalism” look." Since furniture is in low inventory, people are going to start gravitating toward high quality and even kitschy antiques. People will be using their past travels and their dreams of future travels to inspire their decor.
