People often think of the Spring market when buying and selling, but selling your home in the winter definitely has it's advantages. Inventory is typically lower in the winter which means the competition is also lower. In the Spring buyers have new homes available every day to view. That means your home has to compete that all those other available homes. In the winter there are fewer homes that you are competing with.
Your home will feel more inviting in the winter months. With holiday decorations, the fireplace going, and that new furnace keeping everything feeling cozy, your home can feel more inviting to buyers. So take the time to shovel the driveway and sidewalks, decorate for your holiday, and have holiday music playing softly in the background.
You have serious buyers looking. Having to make sure your home is show ready at all times and having to remove yourself, kids, and pets for showings can be stressful. In the winter you are more likely to have only serious buyers coming through your house, rather than "window shoppers" who may not be ready to buy yet. So, while there may be less people looking at your home in the winter, we know these people are more serious than those looking during the Spring months.
So, if you are thinking of selling, you might think of selling in the winter rather than waiting for the Spring market.Ā
